Purple Rice (also know as Black Rice) is one of many heirloom plants that produce rice variants, like Indonesian black rice. When cooked black rice looks purple in color, hence the name. This rice is highly nutritional, it has a high amount of fiber and iron, full of antioxidants and it has a mildly nutty taste.
The Black/Purple Rice has been named ”forbidden rice”. Because originally, in China, it was considered the Emperor’s rice and it was forbidden for anyone else to eat it.
