My fav so far is the ATX Burger. I had the Zucci Burger this last weekend and I was less impressed.

If the weather is nice you can sit outside at the picnic tables. It’s a nice little area with a few games while you wait.  Giant jenga anyone?

There is only one BBQ trailer in this area. Hopefully they put something else in soon. A dessert trailer maybe?stonehouse 3

Cow Tipping Creamery- A new twist on soft serve! This ice cream place was north off of 620 but recently relocated to UT”s West Campus food trailer area. (2512 Rio Grande) Don’t pay attention to some the yelp reviews, no doubt written by college kids.

This place is unique and you do get a lot for your money. It’s family run and the couple behind the counter are very nice.

I had the Salty Sweet Cone, messy but delicious. I have a serious sweet tooth but it was satisfied after this sweet cone.

Here is their menu, so many options! cowtipping menu

The Guinness shake was also well liked. The only other placeI know you can get one is the Alamo Drafthouse.

A very tasty BBQ Trailer that is in the South Austin Trailer Park located on IH 35 South just before Riverside. It’s right next to the Holiday Inn in a small new trailer food area just off the highway.

Its easy to miss, but not east to forget. I had the chopped brisket sandwich with onions, pickles and Cj’s own BBQ sauce. Yum! Its fairly priced, I even took extra home for dinner on my last visit!

They have weird hours so you should call before you head over if your not in the area. But its worth the trip.

More info on Facebook or on Yelp.

Have a sweet tooth? Have you tried gelato?

It’s similar to ice cream. Just made in smaller batches and using fresh ingredients, and tastes creamier. It’s said to be healthier than ice cream– 4 reasons Gelato is healthier.

Healthy dessert? Yes please.

This is one of our first posts on Locally owned for 2013! If you are in Austin, TX you should check out M Bella Gelato . They offer great & unique flavors including Grandma’s Apple Pie, Basil Lime, Jalapeno Watermelon, Peppered Chocolate. Just to name a few.  I had their holiday special– peppermint mocha– over the holidays. OMG! It tastes like Starbucks Mocha- Peppermint frap, but in ice cream form. Deliziosissima!

So besides custom and unique flavors they have organic gelato and they do catering for parties, events, etc.

My only negative is that they need a trailer already! Check them out you won’t be disappointed.

Looking for a yummy uber healthy smoothie?

smoothie

Try a veggie one! Great first thing in the morning. I start my day with one now. I don’t know how I’ll go back.

I had a great health smoothie in Costa Rica that I’ve been trying to re-create here. Don’t be fooled by its green color. It’s loaded with Vitamin A,  Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Glutathione, Manganese, Fiber, Copper, Natural anti-inflammatory among other benefits.

What you’ll need:

Baby Spinach- fresh

Cucumber- fresh

Celery- fresh

Avocado- fresh

Pineapple- frozen. Plus gives it a sweet factor. w/o sugar

Apple- fresh

Squeeze of lemon & lime. Fresh

You can sub whatever you have in your fridge. I like adding the frozen pineapple because it gives it a nice consistency and a sweetness.

Depending on how much you’re making this for. I just make about 8oz serving at a time to drink every morning for breakfast.

Just a few slices goes a long way. A piece of each fruit/ veggie above will give you smoothies all week.

Directions:

For one 6-8oz Smoothiesmoothie 2

-roughly 5 Baby Spinach leaves

– 2 slices Cucumber

– 1/3 of a celery stalk

-1 chuck of Avocado

– 2 slices of Apple

-4 or 5 small chunks of frozen pineapple

– a squeeze of lemon

– a squeeze of lime

– 6oz of cold filtered water

(or Coconut water, or  cold white tea if you need a caffeine kick)

Combine and blend in a high capability blender. (I have a very handy magic bullet.) Puree for a few minutes until smooth.

Pour into your favorite glass.

Drink and enjoy! Yum! smoothie 3
